Primary Classroom 2 years to 6 years
We are a mixed aged primary term-time setting, operating 38 weeks of the year. We welcome children from the age of 2 to 6 years.
In our full Montessori setting, your child is invited to engage in the practical life, sensorial, language, math and cultural activities that they are drawn to and which are suited to this stage of their development.
Great emphasis is placed on aiding your child's concentration and the development of muscles to aid writing, through work with the practical life activities. The sensorial materials help lay the foundations for the intellect and provide opportunities for enhancing vocabularly too. Work with the Montessori language materials provides a deep awareness of phonics and blends, before your child goes on to explore 'puzzle words'. With the sensorial and maths materials your child is given an awareness of the decimal system, the concept of 0, counting through 1 to 10 and 100 and the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Activities such as singing, music, art, storytelling and the ballet class are opportunities for the children to join together in group activities.
In the primary class, we support your child's need for physical independence - to help them to be able to say: 'I can do this for myself.'
